Andrus Family Fund (AFF) supports organizations engaging in youth-led and family-led organizing and power-building towards the abolition of youth prisons, the foster system, and school policing and working to create community-led models of safety and justice. A ~$5 million grants budget allows the Fund to partner with grassroots organizations advancing the liberation of BIPOC youth and communities across the United States. AFF is seeking individuals who are interested in joining our Board of Directors starting in September 2025.
AFF seeks board members in the United States with a passion for social and racial justice and a strong commitment to serving the public good. AFF encourages applications and nominations from individuals directly impacted by incarceration and the foster system, Black, Indigenous, people and women of color applicants, individuals from the LGBTQIA+ communities, and individuals with a proactive orientation to diversity, equity, inclusion, embodying solidarity across many identities (race, class, gender, LGBTQIA+, ability, etc.). Because AFF is a "next generation" fund, we seek applicants between the ages of 25 and 45 years old.
In 2000, the Surdna Foundation launched the Andrus Family Fund to engage Andrus family members in civic engagement and organized philanthropy. In 2017, AFF grew the board to include community members to more fully live out the Fund's social justice values. AFF currently seeks additional candidates for community board members to begin service in September 2025. AFF board members may serve up to two 4-year terms, meeting both in-person and virtually throughout the year.
