Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nurse Educator to lead and develop staff training programs aimed at ensuring the highest standards of care in a long-term care environment. This position plays a crucial role in educating and coaching staff on safety, body mechanics, infection control, and other essential practices, while ensuring compliance with regulatory mandates.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development and delivery of staff development programs, covering topics such as safety, body mechanics, infection control, and hazardous materials, in alignment with regulatory requirements.
Support staff performance through coaching and counseling, and participate in the performance management process, including planning and evaluating job results.
Stay updated on industry trends and best practices by attending workshops, reading professional publications, networking, and engaging in relevant professional societies.
Track and document educational activities, including attendance and participant feedback.
Provide regular reports on active projects, progress, and outcomes, including daily, weekly, and monthly updates.
Participate in monthly Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) meetings and projects to ensure continuous improvement.
Collaborate with the Director of Quality and/or Director of Nursing to plan, coordinate, and implement staff training programs and services to ensure a well-educated workforce.
Maintain accurate records and assist with data collection for assessment and evaluation purposes.
Provide support and guidance to staff who are off work, on disability, or on workman's compensation, facilitating their earliest possible return to work.
Review incident reports, OSHA reports, and employee injuries, coordinating education and safety programs to prevent future incidents.
Provide annual tuberculosis screenings and follow-up procedures for positive test results, in accordance with guidelines and under the direction of the Director of Nursing.
Administer Hepatitis B vaccines and tuberculosis (TB) tests to contracted agencies and individuals, following established protocols and under the guidance of the Director of Quality or Director of Nursing.
Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Nurse Educator in a long-term care setting.
Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License.
Prior experience working in long-term care or rehabilitation settings.
Demonstrated ability to creatively educate and coach individuals in a supportive and effective manner.
CPR certification required; CPR trainer certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, educate, and coach staff at all levels.
High ethical standards with a commitment to confidentiality and discretion.
A strong understanding of emergency preparedness, safety procedures, fire protocols, and OSHA regulations.
Knowledgeable in infection control practices and procedures.
