                                      CIRCUIT COURT OF COOK COUNTY
                                        ADULT PROBATION DEPARTMENT

Job Title:                      Training Specialist
Division:                      Administrative Staff
Grade:                          18
Reports to:                   Director of Training
Salary:                         $70,150

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Develop, coordinate, and schedule administrative, sworn, and support staff trainings.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive lesson plans and training materials.
  • Design and deliver one-on-one customized training sessions as needed.
  • Facilitate and present administrative, sworn, and support staff training workshops.
  • Generate year-end evaluations of individual training events and conferences.
  • Conduct needs assessments to develop appropriate training and yearly training delivery plans.
  • Generate training materials (job aids, supplemental training materials/manuals, etc.).
  • Work closely with instructors/trainers to develop trainings to meet specific needs of support staff members.
  • Provide guidance to in-house field trainers.
  • Research, recommend, and implement updates to the department’s training curriculum and policies.
  • Coordinate and supervise Preservice Orientation Training Programs.
  • Assist with the creation of newsletters and publications in partnership with the Public Information Officer.
  • Produce Training Division’s newsletter and other publications, when necessary.
  • Complete administrative reports and maintain accurate training records.
  • Monitor and respond to inquiries in the department’s shared email inbox.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Establish residency in the State of Illinois within 90 days of hire.
  2. Possess a bachelor’s degree in education , management, public administration, criminal justice, or social services.
  3. Minimum of two (2) years of employment in probation or court services.
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  5. Excellent written and oral communication abilities, strong command of English grammar and professional writing, and effective presentation and public speaking skills.
  6. Complete a “Train-the-Trainer” course within 6 months of appointment to position.
  7. Completion of additional certification courses related to training within one (1) year, as required.
  8. Strong planning, multitasking, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
  9. Able to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  10. Demonstrates discretion and sensitivity when handling confidentiality and professionalism.
  11. Ability to complete miscellaneous projects within designated timeframes.
  12. Exercises independent judgment within established guidelines.
  13. Works effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  14. Strong planning, multitasking, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
  15. Demonstrated ability to effectively complete all assigned duties and adapt to additional responsibilities as required.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
  • On a continuous basis, sit at a desk for extended periods of time in front of a computer screen.
  • Able to ambulate throughout the office.
  • Intermittently twist to reach equipment or supplies surrounding desk.
  • Perform simple grasping and fine manipulation.
  • Ability to lift up to forty pounds.
  • Use telephone and computer keyboard on a daily basis.
